Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: November 23rd, 2010

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and friend, Aulay Morrison whose death occurred Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay to parents, William and Sarah (MacAulay) Morrison, Aulay's young life included involvement in various athletics which found him regularly at the YAC in Glace Bay. That passion continued as he was an avid skater in many of the area's rinks well into his later years.
In 1940 Aulay enrolled in the Royal Canadian Artillery 8th Princess Louise Armour Corps and as a result served in Continental Europe, North Atlantic area and the United Kingdom.
Aulay married Rachael Ralph in April 1942 and upon completion of service he was discharged from the army in 1945, returning to Glace Bay where he and Rae lived and raised their family.
Employment after service for Aulay began at Hyland Motors Ltd., Glace Bay where he would continue to work for six years before moving on to the S & L Railway. From there and until retirement he was employed by Devco as a coal car inspector.
Aulay was described by one of his employers as honest, co-operative, dependable, efficient and reliable.
Quiet by nature, Aulay was a home body and family was the center of his life. He was happiest when everyone was around and particularily enjoyed family holidays in Dundee and P.E.I., playing golf. Aulay was quietly generous and extremely charitable. He was a member of the United Church of Canada.
Surviving are his devoted daughter, Charlotte (Duncan); grandson, Chris (Amy), Toronto; daughter-in-law, Karen Morrison; granddaughter, Jeanne (Oscar), Edmonton. He is also survived by his two great-granddaughters, Sammy Roach and Maira Fernandez, who could always bring a smile to his face, as they sat in his lap.
Surviving as well are sisters, Florence ‘Sis’ Smith, Glace Bay and Billy Macleod (Duane), Homeville and cousin, Margaret Dobson, George's River. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents William and Sarah, Aulay was predeceased by his wife, Rachael in 2001; son, Jackie (1997); stepmother, Charlotte Morrison; stepsister, Dora O'Connell, stepbrothers, Charlie Dobson , Frank Dobson and Philip Dobson.
Honouring Aulay's wishes there will be no visitation. Family will receive friends between 1 and 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Interment will follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only.
Donations in Aulay's memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of one's choice.
