New Glasgow - Margaret Doris Ryan, 91 years old, passed away Thursday morning, November 25, 2010. A resident of the Shiretown Nursing Home, she was born and raised in Trenton, N.S. After high school, Doris attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She worked in several professions before broadcasting the morning hotline show on CKEC Radio called "A Chat with Doris" in the 1960s. She also hosted a Saturday show for children. Later she became the Programmer for cable TV in Pictou County and was a stringer for CBC Radio. She was also a volunteer in Girl Guides and rose to the office of Pictou County Commissioner and was Ladies President of the Stellar Curling Club. She was predeceased by her husband Francis Raymond Ryan, her mother and father Annie (Farrell) and Thomas Graham of Trenton, and her brother Vernon. Doris is survived by her daughter: Barbara Rosemary Ryan (Jeffrey Richard Liss), Ottawa; her sons: Robert Francis (Elizabeth Arlene Gregory) Cole Harbour; and Patrick Daniel O'Connell Ryan, Westville. She will also be missed by her grandchildren: Sean Ryan, Jenny Ryan and Michael Liss. Her extended family includes her best friend Jean White of Caribou and family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is being held on Sunday at 5pm at the Hector Exhibit Centre on Haliburton Road in Pictou. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged for the Hector Exhibit Centre or the Pictou County S.P.C.A. Interment will occur with a family service at Christ the King Cemetery on Monday.
