It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Margot Hildegart Cutts Brewer of York Manor, Fredericton, N.B. announce her passing on June 19, 2009.
She enjoyed a long and healthy life and in the end passed away peacefully. Despite the ravages of Alzheimer disease, she maintained her grace, dignity and sense of humour until the end and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Margot was born in Frankenberg, East Germany. In her youth she enjoyed skiing, tennis and horseback riding and later served as a nurse during the Second World War. After the war she met Ken Cutts, a British subject based in Germany. They married and later immigrated to St. John's, N.L.
Margot was well known in St. John's as the owner of Chez Margot, an exclusive clothing boutique in the Avalon Mall. In 1982 she married Roland Brewer, formerly of Fredericton, and lived with him in Carbonear, N.L. until his death in 2005.
Margot is survived by her son Nick Cutts, his wife Mary Bertucci and their son David of St. Petersburg, Fla. She is also survived by her late husband's children Margot (Ottawa), Allison (Halifax) and Merredith (Fredericton).
She will be greatly missed by her many friends especially Tom and Sharon Dunn, her dear friend Pat Delaney, Jackie Webster and her angel Dwight Hickey. She spent the last three years of her life in Fredericton, cared for by her daughters there, particularly Merredith who was by her side until the very end.
A special thank you goes out to the staff of the Atrium at York Manor, who became like a family to her during her two-year stay.
There will be no visitation, but people are invited to take a few moments to remember Margot and celebrate her life and what it meant to have known her. Margot was fun loving and intelligent, with a great fondness for animals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA, Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice.
