John Allen (Papa) McGarrity of Riverview passed away peacefully at the Jordan Life Care Center on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the age of 84. Born in St. Stephen, NB, he was the son of the late Philip and Genevieve (Fitzsimmons) McGarrity. Allen retired from the CNR Damage and Claims Department in 1989 following 35 years service, a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Riverview. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served overseas and was a member and Past President of the Riverview Veteran's and Armed Forces Association. Allen truly enjoyed his retirement years with his grandchildren, family and dear friends, a good game of crib and making other smile and laugh. He will be dearly missed by his sons; Stephen (Tracey) and Deno (Cathy) both of Riverview, grandchildren; Michael, Colleen, Angela and Bobby and his sister, Margaret McGarrity of St. Stephen. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife and best friend Gloria, daughter Colleen Marie, grandson Ryan Allen, brothers; Philip, Jerome, Maurice and Richard, sisters; Genevieve and Patricia.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Monday from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The Riverview Veteran's and Armed Forces Association will hold a memorial service Monday evening at 6:15 PM, with parish prayers and sharing of memories to take place at 8:30 PM from the funeral home. The funeral mass will be celebrated from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Riverview, on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Father Phil Mulligan presiding. The interment will take place at the Wesleyan Union Cemetery. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the Jordan Life Care Center in Riverglade for their kindness and loving care.
