EGYPT ROAD - James Phillip Roberts, age 70, of Egypt Road, Pictou Co., passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at home surrounded by his family and faithful friends, Sydney and Samson.
He battled his disease, with dignity and strength. He never once complained or gave up hope. He was an inspiration to us all and a friend to everyone.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Thomas) Roberts.
He was a retired conductor with the CNR and was a former President of Trenton Minor Hockey. He coached minor hockey and baseball, loved fishing and hunting, was an avid baseball player in Cape Breton and loved travelling to watch his grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed going to the mall to get his morning cup of McDonald's coffee with his friends. He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth "Tee" (Jones); daughters, Angela (Larry) Turnbull, Trenton; Rebecca Roberts; Bangor, Maine; son, Jason (Heather Stairs); Grand Prairie, Alberta; grandchildren: Luke, Paige, Ben and Kirk Turnbull; Adam and Andrew Roberts; sisters, Ada Bungay, North Sydney; Ethel Selsky, Toronto.
He was predeceased by brothers, Arthur and Rupert.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First United Church, Trenton with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to First United Church, Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or Earth A.R.C. (Animal Respite Care).
