Douglas Frederick "Doug" Eaton - 63, of Kentville, passed away suddenly, Thursday, December 2, 2010 at home. Born in Kentville, he was a son of Beverley "Bev" Eaton, New Minas and the late Edria (Harvie) Eaton. Doug attended Kings County Academy, Kentville and was a member of the first graduating class (1963) of Kings Regional Vocational School, Kentville. He had been employed with NCR for 40 years as a technical representative and field engineer. He was later employed with Annapolis Valley Guard Service working at Chipman Place and the Valley Regional Hospital. Doug was an avid supporter of minor sports, including soccer, baseball and hockey. He had been involved with hockey for over 40 years, coaching all levels of minor hockey, from Mites to Juvenile and was well known as "Kentville's Mr. Hockey". He coached the Nova Scotia Senior Women's team, taking them to the Nationals and had been involved with high school hockey. Doug taught coaching clinics throughout the Western Region of the Province for Hockey Nova Scotia and was proud to be a mentor in the minor hockey system. Doug coached both of his children and was proud to have an opportunity to support and guide his grandson. In 2008, he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Club of New Minas Sunrise for his contribution to his community. He formerly served the Parks and Recreation Department for the Town of Kentville and in 2010, was named their Volunteer of the Year. Over and above his obvious passion for sports and community, Doug first and foremost dedicated his life to his family. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, the former Jennifer Pringle; two sons, Tyler (Tammy), Centreville; Drew, Drumheller, Alberta; a grandson, Marcus; two brothers, Lawrence "Larry" (Cathy), Kentville; Lloyd (Donna), St. Catharines, Ontario; his father-in-law, Donald "Don" Pringle (the late Greta), Port Williams; nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There was no visitation, by request. A private family graveside service was held in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County.
