It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Mary Ida King, 96, on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Taigh Solas in the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Bras d'Or, Ida was the daughter of the late Frank and Theresa (McGrath) Cantwell.
She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Bras d'Or, and was involved in many aspects of her parish, including CWL. Ida was the last surviving chartered member of the Bras d'Or Pensioners Club.
Surviving are her daughters, Melita, Gloria (Jack) Nicholson, Claudia (Earl) Warhus, Celesta (Nelson) Johnston, Miriam (Thomas) Boudreau, Monica (David) Beaton, Coletta; her sons, Damian (Carol), Wayne (Ann Marie), Paul (Patricia), Achillius 'Chicky' (Linda), Kennedy (Julie); her daughter-in-law, Cathy (Marsh) King; son-in-law, Danny Handley; her 42 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Phyllis (Dave) King, Shirley (Charles) King, Geraldine (Peter) Yellovich, Patronella Harper, Greta (Peter) Klearnomis, Eileen MacPherson; brothers, Murray (Frances) Cantwell, Edgar (Margaret) Cantwell and sister-in-law, Louise Cantwell and Theresa Cantwell.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard King, her daughter, Audrey Handley and two sons, Pius and Gerard in infancy, four grandchildren, Gerard King, Jacklyn Nicholson, Roger Warhus and Tyler MacMullin, her brothers, Earl, Russell, Percy, Warren, Keith, Don and James, two sisters, Frances and Marguerite, brothers-in-law, Harry MacPherson and Lloyd Harper and sister-in-law Florence Cantwell.
Visitation for Ida will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. (today) Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery, Bras d'Or.
