It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Archie, while surrounded by his loving family at home.
Born in Glace Bay, Archie was the son of the late Angus ‘Blue’ and Charlotte MacDonald.
Archie was a member of Holy Cross Church in Glace Bay. Archie was a veteran of the Second World War and past president of #11 Legion in Glace Bay and welfare officer of Branch 3 Legion of Glace Bay. Archie was actively involved in causes and concerns of his fellow veterans and community. Archie was an honest man who fought for what he believed in and not only for himself, but also for others. His willingness to help all in need was exceptional. His love, compassion and devotion will go on through his family. Archie worked as a miner in Caledonia Colliery and was a self employed businessman.
Archie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita; his children, Brenda (Donnie - predeceased) Murphy, Sheila (Walter) Sweet, Archina (Keith) Campbell, Joe (Ann Marie) MacDonald, Rita (Roy) McNeil, Mary Louise (Pat) Hillgrove, Noelle MacDonald, Benadette (Louie) Breslyn, Jacqueline (David) Young, Angela (Leo) MacDonald, Kimberly (Darren) Knockwood.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, Brian, sons, David, James and Robert, grandson, David, brother, Joe and sister, Mary.
We would love to share with you his great sense of humour and his great love for animals.
In honoring Archie’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment will be at St. Anne's Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Donations in Archie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Glace Bay Palliative Care.
