Richard Alexander ‘Dickie’ Leach, Crescent Street, Sydney Mines, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1933, he was the son of the late John and Marion (Steele) Leach.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his sister, Mona Taylor, Ontario; eight nephews and six nieces.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Jackie and Adrian Leach.
Dickie was owner/operator of Dickie’s Convenience Store on Crescent Street, Sydney Mines, for 35 years.
He was very involved in minor league baseball in his early years and in later times, whenever there was a tournament at the new Pitt Street Field, he was usually the first to arrive and the last to leave. Also, in earlier times, he was an avid bowler with the Sydney Mines Men’s Bowling League at St. Mary’s Hall and Strand Lanes.
He will be greatly missed and was deeply loved by his family and friends.
Visitation Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
