Halifax - Ellen Lynn Yorston. Born in Amherst, NS, on April 29, 1953, Lynn passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010, at age 57, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, where she lost her battle with ALS. In New Glasgow to be near her family, she spent most of her adult years in Halifax. Lynn earned a BA from Mount Allison University in 1975 and then worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Provincial Airways before enrolling at Dalhousie University and graduating with a BScN degree in 1986. She then held various nursing positions in Halifax, Amherst and Sackville. She was predeceased by her father, Arthur Herbert Scott Yorston, mother Florence (Wilson) Yorston and brother Robert Scott Yorston. Lynn is survived by brother: Gary (Charlotte) Yorston, New Glasgow, NS; sister-in-law: Barbara Yorston, Amherst Shore, NS; nieces: Jenny Yorston White, Stewiacke, NS; Sandra (Bruce) Thorpe; Renata (Guy) Sorel, both of St. Andrew's, NB; nephew: Michael (Karen) Yorston, Yellowknife, NT. She also has several great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Hematology, Oncology, 8th floor of the VG Hospital and the Rehab Hospital, both of Halifax, and the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. They became her friends during the six months she spent in their care. Although Lynn lived a very private life, she will be sadly missed by friends and family. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Memorial service 2 pm Thursday, December 16, in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Burial will be in Haliburton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Canada or Nova Scotia, Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or the Robert Yorston Scholarship Fund.
