Ronnie MacNeil, 73, of 33 Steele's Hill, Glace Bay, and a former resident of 90 3rd Street in the hub, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Daniel and Rose (Boone) MacNeil.
Ronnie was a member of St. John's Church, Glace Bay. He was a coal miner by trade. Ronnie loved to play darts and would travel to Sydney to shoot at the French Club; he also loved going for drives in his van which never failed to stop at Tim Hortons; but mostly, Ronnie will be remembered for his kind and generous nature.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Margaret (Boutilier) MacNeil; his daughters, Lisa (Danny), with whom he resided, Joanne MacNeil, British Columbia; son, Troy MacNeil, Alberta; stepdaughters, Linda and Sylvia Pittman, Glace Bay; stepson, Greg Pittman, New Brunswick; and a brother, Sandy MacNeil, Westmount. Also surviving are grandchildren, Danette (Tom), whom he raised as his own child, Amanda and Greg Chislett, Jean Ann, Michelle, Bernice, Vanessa, Danielle; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Stephen, Christina, Ashley, Tyler, Rebecca Lynn and Charleigh.
Ronnie was predeceased by brothers, Danny, Joe, Jim and two sisters, Patricia and Margie.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home,16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Thursday, 11 a.m. in St. John's Church. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date.
Special thank you to New Waterford Homecare, especially Billie Gracie for his kindness and compassion, you went above and beyond. Your great sense of humour could always put a smile on Dad's face. Also a thank you to Dr. Spencer for his home visits.
As an expression of sympathy for Ronnie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer's Association.
