Evelyn Syms , formerly of Centreville Road, Reserve Mines, passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at MacGillivary Guest Home, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Jessie (MacLean) Gallant.
Evie was active in the choir and altar society at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. She was employed at the post office in Reserve for over 35 years. Evelyn was a very gracious and generous lady who loved children and animals. She was also a very social and community-minded person; always seen with a smile on her face. Evie will be sadly missed by all.
She is survived by her brother, Wendell Gallant, Dartmouth; sister, Josie (Rannie) Ellsworth, Westmount; nieces, Tanya (Vaughn) Poirier and their children, Katie and Joey, Reserve Mines, Andrea, and her son, Avery, Maine, and Renee, Calgary. Evie will be sadly missed by her inlaws, the Syms Family.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Gerald 'Lindy' Syms in 2007, brother, Joe, sisters, Dorothy 'Dot,' Adline, Winnie and Muriel.
A private visitation will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, with Rev. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Evelyn, donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer's Association.
