Douglas Farrow
Douglas Ernest George Farrow Son of Lewis & Georgia (Beaver) Farrow, 71 passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Friday, December 10, 2010 after a long courageous battle with cancer. For most of his younger years he worked as an iron worker for Robbs Engineering & Dominion Bridge. Douglas worked on many large projects such as Point Le Preau Nuclear plant, MacDonald & MacKay Bridges, Halifax and the Confederation Bridge to P.E.I.
Douglas loved nature and his trips with family to Long Lake. He became known as "Muskrat". Often he could be seen in his canoe, snowmobile or his four wheeler exploring the marshes he knew & loved. The bogs, canals and the wild life excited him.
In the 80's he became interested in horse racing. He bought Molly, a beautiful but unpredictable mare. Later he obtained Sam & Rustie. He never became rich as he had hoped, but he won the total respect of other horsemen because of his loyalty & respect to his animals.
He also enjoyed Bluegrass festivals & exhibitions and followed them with his wife and daughter. His philosophy in life was to live each day as if it was his last and this he did! Douglas will be sadly missed by his family & friends. He is survived by his wife Joan (Crawford); a daughter, Terrilynn (Brighton, England); sisters, Elaine (Roy) Anderson, Nanimo, BC, Lorraine (Art) Snow, Amherst, Donna White, Brookdale, NS; a brother Richard, Tyndal Road, NS, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Lewis, sister Elizabeth Carter and a brother in law, Bill Carter. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home (70 Church St. Amherst, NS). No funeral service by Douglas's request. The family will receive visitors at the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Should friends, desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care, or charity of your choice.
