Weatherby, Donald Aubrey ---- With sadness and regret, we, the family of Donald Aubrey Weatherby of Bible Hill, announce his sudden passing on Saturday, December 11,2010, at home. Born on May 23,1932 in East Mines he was the eldest child of
Bertha (Reid) and the late Thomas Weatherby. Donnie worked for Eastern Transport
as a truck driver and ended his career there in the position of Operations Supervisor . He
returned to his love of driving trucks when his concluded his pre-retirement working life delivering 3M products in London, Ontario. After retirement, he kept busy doing snow removal and odd carpentry jobs. Until arthritis limited his abilities, he was always
busy fixing or creating something. His family greatly benefited from his skill and knowledge. For fifty years, Donnie enjoyed cottage life in Marshville and took extreme care and pride in building many signature decks for cottage neighbours. He was the resident handyman. After returning from London, Ontario, Donnie settled in Crowes
Mills where he thoroughly enjoyed his property, tinkering in his garage and visits from wildlife. He also took great pride and lovingly invested many hours in keeping his Ford vehicles immaculately clean and polished. Due to declining health, Donnie moved to Bible Hill last summer but still maintained his independence with a little help from family and friends. He was very grateful for the friendship of Reg and the other residents of his new neighbourhood. Dad loved to discuss the weather and current events. His
Sunday morning calls from son "Bucko" were eagerly anticipated. We went to Dad when in need of an opinion or advise knowing we would benefit from his vast life experiences and high standards. Dad will forever be missed and leaves a great void in our family structure.
Don is survived by Mother, Bertha McLaughlin, Bible Hill; daughters, Sandra Fortnum, London, Ont.; Nancy Adams (Ernie), Truro; son, Donald (Ann), London, Ont.; step-daughter Tracy McRae (Stan), Manganese Mines; step-son, John Cotterill (Jenn), Halifax.
He is also survived by sisters, Marion McNutt, Truro; Charlotte Toole (Albert),Bible Hill; Catherine Terry, Truro; Dorothy Adams, Debert; brother, David (Shirley), Greenfield.
Grampie will be respectfully and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Sheridon Weatherby, Jared and Haley Adams, Bradley and Christopher Moore and Jason McRae, and Jamie and Kellie Cotterill as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, Donnie was predeceased by his first wife Mary (Toots), second wife, Lois, sister, Jean Totten, and stepfather Roy McLaughlin.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation by request. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, 2:00 pm at Plains Road Cemetery, Debert with Rev Don McQueen officiating. A reception will follow at Debert United Church, Plains Road, Debert. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society or a charity of your choice.
