Gerald Marvin Smith, age 81, of Scotch Village, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by his family. Born on May 12, 1929, in Cheverie, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Russell and Jean (Lake) Smith. Gerald worked in construction for many years, and had also worked with the Department of Highways. In later years, he also worked with his brother, Gordon, at Smith's Auto Glass, Scotch Village. He enjoyed Fiddle Music and dancing at the Country Jamboree's, Nine Mile River. He is survived by his daughters, Lorraine (Don) Chambers, Cambridge, Hants County; Evelyn (Jamie) Oatman, Windsor; Carolyn Sawler, Toronto, Ontario; Jennifer Parker, Hantsport; sons, Carmen (Paula) Smith, Lower Sackville; Chester (Janice) Sawler, Bridgewater; Russell (Audrey) Smith, Nine Mile River; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Pauline (Clifford) Collins, Kingston, Ontario; Doris (Bob) Yateman, Barrie, Ontario; Frances Power, Windsor; Eileen (Don) Baker, Windsor; Linda (Frank) Walters, Sydney Mines, Cape Breton; brothers, Elmer "Buzz" Smith, Scotch Village; Ralph Smith, Scotch Village. He is also survived by close nieces and nephews, Bonnie (Paul) Graham; Adrienne (John) Peters; Jeremy Graham and Graham Peters; also by his cat, Susie. Besides his parents, Russell and Jean (Lake) Smith; he was also predeceased by his brothers, Earl, Roland and Gordon Smith. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, November 4, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2010, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a reception in the Lindsay Family Reception Vcentre, 184 King Street. Interment was in the Hillview Cemetery, Scotch Village, Hants County. Donations in memory of Gerald, were requested to be made to the Palliative Care Unit (Hants Community Hospital) or to the SPCA, Hants County Branch.
