Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Home in St. John's, NL on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 after a ten year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, with her family by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband Laurie in 1986; parents, Roy and Violet Darby; brother, Kelvin and infant daughter. Leaving to mourn her loss with cherished memories, son Gary (Sherry), Corner Brook; daughters: Janice (Paul) Dubois, Dartmouth, NS and Lois (Troy) Sullivan, St. John's; adoring granddaughters: Emily and Rebecca DuBois; Meghan and Kate Sullivan; sister-in-law, Alison Bartle, Grand Falls-Windsor; nieces: Christina Darby (Darrell) and Stephanie (Melvin) Coombs. Born in St. John's, Joyce moved to Corner Brook in 1953 with her new husband Laurie. Joyce loved music and sang in both church and community choirs most of her life. She also enjoyed playing piano, painting, gardening, travelling, old movies, card club, baking and daily walks downtown. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and close friends. We wish to thank the staff at the Agnes Pratt Home particularly Fairhaven & Pratt Place for their loving care, patience and attention for Mom and for us over the past 31/2 years. We are all the better for having had you in our lives. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will also be held in Corner Brook at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Agnes Pratt Foundation.
