It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my father, George Robert MacLean, which occurred Thursday, December 16, 2010, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, following a brief illness.
Born in Boston, Mass., he was a son of the late Kenneth and Sadie (MacLeod) MacLean.
George was employed in sales for most of his life and worked in real estate until retiring to Cape Breton.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas with the Princess Patricia Light Infantry. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53, Baddeck, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, in Boston.
George is survived by his son Ken MacLean of Englishtown.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife Jean (Deckman) MacLean, and his sister Katherine.
There will be no visitation by request. A graveside committal service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday Dec. 19, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery, Skir Dhu, with Diane Kempt DLM, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
