
Meldric Mazerolle
1946 - 2010 - RICHIBUCTO, N.B. - Mayor, Meldric J. Mazerolle, passed away peacefully at the Georges-L. Dumont Regional Hospital on December 18, 2010 at the age of 64. Born in St-Olivier (St. Louis-de- Kent), he was the son of the late Eddy Mazerolle and Maria (Martin) Mazerolle. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria (Guimond) Mazerolle, his mother, brother, Roger Mazerolle (Denise) of Saint-Louis-de-Kent, two sisters, Annette Blanchard (Leonard) of Saint-Charles, Ginette Mazerolle (Gerry) of Aldouane and several nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles, cousins and many dear and close friends. Since 2002 up until his death, he was Mayor of Richibucto. He had devoted more than 21 years to municipal politics of which the last eight years as Mayor (2002-2010), three years as Deputy-Mayor (1986-1989) and ten years as Town Councillor (1974-1983). Meldric was treasurer and president of the Association of New Brunswick villages (1978-1983). He was also an executive member of the Provincial Municipal Council (1978-1983). Meldric equally devoted many years of his life to Provincial politics, for example as treasurer, vice-president, co-manager of electoral campaign for the Liberal Party. He was also implicated in the Federal aspect of politics being an official agent, member and representative for the Kent-North riding and was the last person to nominate the Honorable Romeo LeBlanc in 1980. On the community level, he was a hockey player well known in the region, as well as being a co-owner, treasurer and president of the Junior hockey team Les Habitants. He was a member of Les Amisols Choir since 1975, member of the Richelieu club since 1976. He was equally involved with La Caisse Populaire of Richibucto Ltée as director (1974-1986) and vice-president (1983-1986). He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Richibucto and the Marina du Suroît. He was treasurer of Residence of Richibucto since 1982 and president (1984-1986). He was also member of Le Conseil économique du Nouveau-Brunswick and an auxiliary member of the Canadian Coast Guard since 1983. On the professional level, he was assistant-chief measurer at J.D. Irving in 1964, merchandise purchaser -comptroller at Eaton's (1965-1972) and later a sales representative at Co-operators up until his retirement (1972-2002). Meldric was a graduate of l'Université de Moncton and had been implicated with the student council of the Collège Dominique Savio of Saint-Louis-de-Kent as president (1964) et vice-president (1963).
Resting at Thompson's Funeral Home, Richibucto with visitation on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday from noon until departure for the funeral. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2:00 PM, St Louis de Gonzague Roman Catholic Church, Richibucto. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
