Matheson, Ena - 62, Loving mother, wife, sister and friend, Ena (Evans) Matheson passed peacefully at home on December 14, 2010 while embraced by her husband and children. Born and raised in Windsor, Ena started her career as a nursing assistant at the Payzant Memorial Hospital in Windsor. Later, she became the bookkeeper for her husband's company and played a variety of roles in the local community. She was past president of the home and school association in Falmouth, choir member of Juniper Grove United Church and past secretary of the provincial Clan Matheson Society. She enjoyed travel, was an avid reader and gardener. Ena fought a courageous battle with breast cancer since 1992. Although the last few years were more challenging, she embraced these struggles with grace; choosing to focus her energy on living each day to its fullest. Ena touched countless lives and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her recent passion was supporting others struggling with breast cancer. She was a charter member of the local 'Breast Quest' support group. Her gentle manner and welcoming smile provided comfort to all who connected with her. Ena continues to live on through her husband, Douglas; three children, Timothy, Douglas Jr., and Kristina; two grandsons, Caleb and Colby Matheson; one granddaughter, Jaimee Connors; sons-in-law, Darren Connors and Ross Keizer and daughter-in-law, Janet Matheson. Ena was the youngest of four sisters. She and her sisters Irene Reynolds, Edith Atwell and Connie MacKay were pre-deceased by their mother and father, Ena and Arthur Evans. As Leo Tolstoy wrote, "The true office of any faith is to give life a meaning that death cannot destroy." Ena's ministry in life was one of compassion and support to family, friends and her community. Her legacy will continue to expand through the good deeds of those who knew her. After the family has a period of private reflection, a memorial to honour Ena's life will be planned. The Matheson family wishes to thank all of the health care professionals that provided support to Ena during the past few years.
