Passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at the Seaview Manor Home for Special Care where she had been residing.
Born in Louisbourg, and raised in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Johnson) Donahue.
She was a long time faithful member of St. Anthony's parish and St. Anne's Sodality when it was active. For a period of time she resided at the Valley View Seniors Complex and she enjoyed her years of camaraderie and singing with the Glace Bay Coal Town Chorus. Edie was identified with many community activities and earned the respect, admiration and affection of all those with whom she came in contact. She was a loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Eileen (Douglas Fisher), Fall River, N.S., and Beverly Jackson, Dartmouth, N.S.; grandchildren, Joleen (Jim Orr), Halifax, Dr. Brenda Baird, Ottawa, Ont., Tanya MacIntyre (Lance Lickfold), Mallorca, Spain, Chantal MacIntyre, Waterloo, Ont., Tom Tkach, Toronto, and Joel (Maria) Tkach, Vancouver; great-grandchildren, Daniel Orr and Tyler MacIntyre. She is also survived be her loving sister, Thelma Howley, and a brother, Harold Donahue, Glace Bay; many nieces and nephews and her special friend, Joyce McKenzie, Glace Bay.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas 'Tommy' Jackson, daughters, Joan Brufatto and Bernice Jackson, two grandsons at birth and Donahue brothers, John, Gordon, Leo, Michael, Edgar and Francis.
Special thanks to the staff at Seaview Manor for their wonderful care and kindness to our mother over the years. A memorial Christian farewell service will be conducted in the chapel at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 11 a. m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
