BLUE MOUNTAIN - Peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, Donald McRitchie Miller passed away in his 67th year on December 21, 2010.
Don was born in Halifax, a son to Jack and Margot (McRitchie) Miller.
He lived in Halifax where he obtained his education and training as a welder. Don was well travelled, yet humble, having travelled to Poland and the Red Sea, but his greatest joys were hunting, fishing and telling stories and jokes.
Don was blessed with a son Peter, the "apple of his eye" and beloved granddaughter Emma, his pride and joy.
Don moved to Blue Mountain having spent the past 18 years with partner Roseanne "Mitzie" MacIntosh which became home, and was known as "The Blue Mountain Hilton" to his buddies. Many of Don's days were spent at the Pictou County YMCA, in the woods and on the lakes doing what he loved with those close to his heart.
Don is survived by his partner, Mitzie MacIntosh, New Glasgow; a son Peter (Sally), Moncton; step-daughters, Debbie Anderson (John Atwater), New Glasgow; and Kim Conrad Hayden (Mike MacMaster), Blue Mountain. Don was "Grampa Don" to his special angel Emma, Moncton; Aaron Hayden and Brett Anderson, New Glasgow; Jordan Anderson, Halifax; also his special girls, Joanne Reddick "Daddy's Brown Sugar", New Glasgow; and Jenny Carter "Daddy's Angel", Hillside; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Andy MacGregor, Ken Allard and the PEI Boys for their love and friendship, as well as Sandi Trainor and Cheryl Michaud for organizing the recent benefit for Don.
Cremation to take place. There will be no visitation or services at the request of Don.
Donations in memory of Don may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital.
