PARKER, Sheila Anne - 69, of Dataw Island, SC, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2010, after an extended illness. She was born January 29, 1941, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; the daughter of the late William and Winifred Merle (Clancy) Mason. Sheila was a 1961 graduate from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, with a B.A. and a B.E.D. On July 11th, 1964, she married Douglas Fraser Parker in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and they later moved to Liverpool, NS. Sheila also enjoyed living in Trumbull, CT, and London, England, before moving to Greenville, SC, in 1993. Sheila focused much of her abundant energy on helping others. She taught ESOL to adult immigrants in Fairfield County, CT, and devoted many volunteer hours to Meals on Wheels, in Trumbull, CT. She continued to work with adults as an ESOL volunteer in Greenville, SC. She was an avid and talented tennis player who played competitively from her childhood. She enjoyed gardening and was a certified SC Master Gardener and was active in the Dataw Gardening Club. She was a member of The Parish Church of St. Helena in Beaufort, SC, where she was a member of the altar guild. She enjoyed spending summers in Nova Scotia with friends and family. She was a member of the Halifax Junior League and Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She had served as President of the Trumbull Junior Women's Club, Senior Warden of Grace Episcopal Church, Trumbull, CT, and had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Greenville, SC Humane Society. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Parker; three children, Jane (Parker) Williams and Brett Williams of Anderson, SC; Susan (Parker) Heinold and Drew Heinold of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Douglas Parker and Ashley (Saltsman) Parker of Louisville, KY; and six grandchildren: Katherine and Jonathan Williams, Lily and Sophie Heinold, and Celia and Harrison Parker. A memorial service was held December 20, 2010 at the Parish Church of St. Helena in Beaufort, SC, with burial in the church cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Pierre Giglio, his staff at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, and the Friends of Carolina Hospice.
