Dr. Gerald M. Murphy
CM, MD, FRCP(C). Passed peacefully away at the Residential Unit of the Waterford Hospital on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 after a lengthy illness, Dr. Gerald M. Murphy, aged 86. Dr. Murphy is leaving to mourn Catherine (Mandeville), his wife of 52 years; children: Dr. Patricia, Edward (Ollie), Anne, Eileen (Mark Woodford) and Gerald Jr.; grandchildren: Jonathan, Sarah, Laurie and Krista (Ed); great-grandchildren: Brandon, Ethan and Emma; brother Patrick (Ila); sisters: Madeline (Edward Ryan) and Margaret. Predeceased by parents: Michael and Clara; brother Michael; sister Marion. He also leaves behind a large number of nieces, nephews and a close circle of friends.
Dr. Murphy was a well known physician in Newfoundland, having practiced for 47 years in St. John's as an Internal Medicine Specialist at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital. Dr. Murphy also was the Medical Director at St. Patrick's Home for 5 years.

Visiting hours: Friday 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, January 3rd, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church, St. John's. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in St. John's.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Murphy's name to either the St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund or the Alzheimer's Society of Newfoundland.
