The passing of Beatrice Louise (Harrison) Thomas, formerly of Woodlands, NB, widow of the late Leslie E. Thomas, occurred peacefully at the Nashwaak Villa, Stanley, NB on Saturday, January 1, 2011 after a period of failing health. Beatrice was born on September 6, 1920 in Devon, NB, the eldest daughter of the late William and Jennie (Sansom) Harrison.
Beatrice was a teacher by profession and in the late 1940's and early 1950's taught in many one-room schools in the area. She was a member of the Rebecca LOBA Ladies Lodge of Woodlands, a member of the Hillcrest Stanley United Church and affiliated with the North Cardigan United Church. In her later years she retired from the Metropolitan Store, Fredericton, NB. Beatrice and Leslie made their home on the Thomas family farm in Woodlands where their families and friends were always assured of a warm welcome. Beatrice enjoyed knitting and baking and her homemade molasses cookies were a favorite to all the children who visited. She will be missed by all those who knew her.
Beatrice is survived by her son Lloyd Thomas (Shirley Harris); one sister Bertha Clarke; brother-in-law, Ora Ross, sister-in-law, Pearle Gorman (Glenwood Thomas) and brother-in-law Willis Thomas (Rae) and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Floyd Harrison and his wife Gen; her sister Uda Ross; a nephew, Richard Spencer; nieces, Wendy Spencer and Myrna Thomas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Freda Thomas; Robert Clarke, Thomas Gorman, Dora and Elwood Davidson.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Nashwaak Villa where she resided the past six years for their excellent care and compassion.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 12 to 2 pm followed by a service at 2 pm with Wally Ellis, DLM officiating. A reception will follow in the fireside room. Interment will take place at the Cardigan United Church Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Cardigan United Church or Cardigan United Church Cemetery Fund.
