1925 - 2011 - Alfred Joseph Richard passed away peacefully at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton on January 1, 2011. Prior to his time at Spencer's, Alfred had enjoyed retirement living in Bass River and Acadieville. He spent most of his working life in Saint John as a Nursing Orderly at the Saint John Provincial Hospital, the DVA Hospital and the West Saint John Community Hospital. He finished his career as an ambulance driver for the Saint John Regional Hospital. He served as a shop steward during his working life, and was a member of the Assumption Parish in Saint John. In retirement, Alfred enjoyed tending to his potato garden and maintaining the grounds around his house in Acadieville. He was the son of the late Armand and the late Emma (Pineau) Richard of Acadie Siding near Rogersville. He was the brother of the late Emile, the late Camille, the late Leo, and the late Yvonne Maillet. He leaves behind one brother, Pierre, who lives in Gardner, Massachusetts. He was also the father of six children, Rheal in Saint John, Ronald in Calgary, Claude in Oakville, Murielle in Toronto, Maurice in London England, and Daniel in Moncton. He was married to Maria Richard, and although divorced, they had a strong and enduring friendship until Alfred passed away. He also leaves behind several grand children, Geoffrey, Sarah and Luke, Aaron and Aimée, Madeleine and Rene. The family would also like to express their gratitude to special friends Rhea Fearon and her son Paul who gave Alfred love, care and support over the last few years.
The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the church in Acadieville. Visiting hours will be in the basement of the church from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Monday and from 9 to 10:30 on Tuesday morning. Donations in memoriam may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada (www.parkinson.ca).
