Terry Ferguson

LOURDES - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Theresa "Terry" Agnes (Leahy) Ferguson of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Lourdes, on January 2, 2011, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Trenton on November 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Gertrude (O'Donnell) Leahy.
She is survived by her son, Jim, Lourdes; granddaughter, Sasha (George) Vlemma, New Glasgow; great-grandchildren, Adara and Ava Vlemma; sisters: Margaret McCarthy, Marie LeClaire, Dorothy Leahy, Bernadette Hardwick, Patricia Stewart and brother, Paul Leahy; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, sisters, Cecilia Duprui, Helen MacDonald, and brothers, Bob (Margaret) Leahy and Arthur Leahy.
Terry was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church where she served as past-president of the CWL. She had also served as past-president of the Abercrombie Ladies Country Club, past-president of the Bluenose Curling Club, a volunteer with the Pictou County Help Line and the Pictou County Seniors Secretariate.
Terry enjoyed the outdoors and spent many of her years on the golf course, in the curling rink, swimming at the YMCA, and skiing cross country. I
n her early twenties, Terry established a small hairdressing salon in downtown New Glasgow and later moved the business to her home in New Glasgow.
In July of 1946, she married her beloved husband Philip and together they later purchased the convent/sanatorium from the Diocese of Antigonish wherein they operated an apartment complex in Lourdes.
Terry spent a great deal of her life travelling as well as entertaining her many family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed cooking and taught cooking lessons for a short time at the Nova Scotia Community College.
Terry's door was always open for a glass of wine, a game of bridge, and a home cooked meal. Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Private family funeral mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Arthritis Society, Heart and Stroke Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Pictou County SPCA. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
