Paula Roberts Cormier

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Paula Roberts Cormier, 66, Amherst, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan. Born Feb. 16, 1944, in Amherst, Paula was a daughter of the late Paul and Martha (Roberts) Cormier. Paula began her career in 1964 working for the Highland View Regional Hospital in the housekeeping department and later in the kitchen, retiring from Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in 2004 as the head cook. She served as president of the CUPE local 920 for 18 years as well as the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and the Nova Scotia Labour Council. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, reading and yard sales. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandsons, great-grandson and many friends. Paula leaves behind to mourn her beloved boyfriend of 29 years, Bill Meehan; son Louis (Marva MacLeod) Cormier, Napan, N.B.; her brothers, Tom (Karen Walker), Hamilton, Ont. and Bruce (Sandy Johnson), Amherst; special grandsons: Joey, Blake, Morgan and Tyler; great-grandson, Ayden; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl Neil Cormier; sister, Vivian Jean McPhee. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with funeral service Thursday at 11 a.m., both of which will be held at the Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Memorial donations to the palliative care unit of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre would be greatly appreciated by the family.
