Mary Veronica (Steele) MacQueen, age 88, of Maple Ridge Drive, formerly, Alexandra Street, Sydney, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Mary was the daughter of the late John Stephen Steele of Boisdale and Margaret O'Donald of Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, George A. MacQueen; brother, John Steele and son-in-law, Sandy Muise.
Mary worked at the former county court house for a period of 30 years and also, for a number of years, at Churchill School, Prime Brook. Mary was an avid reader with a keen sense of humour.
She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn (Earl) Publicover, Hills Road, Ruth (Ewen) Ferguson, Prime Brook, Gail Muise, Halifax and Sharon (Frank) Prince, Dutch Brook; sons, Grant (Brenda), Hampton, N.B., Gary (Natalie), Prime Brook and Parker (Ada), Louisbourg; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony Daniel Church on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Interment in Boisdale Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Sydney Division.
