It is with saddened hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Dorothy 'Dot' Hyde, 85, on Jan. 3, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
The daughter of the late John William and Elsie May Hyde, Dorothy was born on Aug. 29, 1925, and resided in Sydney Mines.
Dorothy enjoyed a good laugh and loved to tell jokes to a captive audience. She loved to sing, and was a member of the choir of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines. Dorothy enjoyed curling and was a member of the North Sydney Curling Club. She was an avid animal lover and regularly donated to the SPCA. Dorothy loved to read, enjoyed her crafts, and enjoyed bowling and playing bingo.
Until her retirement, Dorothy was an employee of Herald Stationers in North Sydney. Anyone entering the store was treated to her beautiful and friendly smile.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Estella 'Stella' Bartlett and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers, Ronnie, Harold, Danny, George (Sonny) and sisters, Lucille, Rose and Marjorie.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Northside Memorial Manor and the Northside General Hospital. We would also like to thank Yvette Gouthro and Barb MacLean for their thoughtfulness and help.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. A reception will follow in Grandy Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the SPCA.
