Smith, Thomas "Howard" - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on January 4, 2011, Mr. Thomas "Howard" Smith, husband of Mrs. Zelda (Leslie) Smith of Lords Cove, Deer Island NB. Born at Milltown NB on April 17, 1939, he was a son of the late William and Sarah (Caswell) Smith. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his loving wife, Zelda, he is survived by one son, Michael (Darlah) Smith of Quispamsis NB, one daughter, Donna (Shawn) Nixon of Rusagonis NB, four grandchildren; Steve Smith (Amanda McCoy) of Fredericton NB, Alex Smith of Quispamsis NB and Millen and Aiden Nixon of Rusagonis NB, one great grandson, Cohen, one sister, Evelyn (John) Vink of Richardson NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Howard was predeceased by one brother, Everett Smith and by one sister, Margaret Lord. Howard worked for both the Connors Bros Ltd. and East Coast Ferries for many years. He loved woodworking and was an avid reader. Howard was a gifted problem solver and known as the community Mr. Fix It. He was a member of the Lords Cove Church of Christ.
Resting at the Lords Cove Church of Christ, Deer Island NB from where the service will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jim Davis officiating followed by the interment at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery, Calders Head NB. Visiting at the church will take place on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm. In Howard's memory, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Charlotte County Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
