Evans Steeves
Steeves, Evans Reginald, 97, of Elgin, went to be with his Saviour on January 4, 2011, at the Moncton Hospital, Moncton, NB. Born on October 15, 1913, in Elgin, he was the youngest son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Church) Steeves. Evans was a member of the 1st Elgin Baptist Church. He was a farmer and woods-worker all his life, and he loved to hunt and fish. Evans' family was important to him, and he always welcomed company at the homestead. Evans is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy (DeMille) Steeves; his daughters: Idella Lazar (Illes) of Windsor, ON, Louise Weir (Harold) of St. George, Marilyn Mitton (David) of Meadow; his son, Joseph (Jocelyn) of Elgin; as well as by ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Evans was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, Evans was predeceased by his sisters: Louella, Frances, Catherine and Harriet; his brothers: Walter, Charles, Arthur, Percy, Thomas, Gordon, Stanley and Maurice.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac; the funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:30 pm with Pastor David Hawkesworth officiating in the First Elgin Baptist Church. Interment will be held in the New Elgin Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the New Elgin Cemetery or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
