Joyce Evelyn McCorquodale passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 at Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Joyce, at the age of 85, predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce, (1997). Loving mother of Douglas McCorquodale (Gay Jackson) of Vancouver, BC., Mary McCorquodale of Calgary AB., Gary McCorquodale (Judy Welch), of Edmonton, AB., and Joan McCorquodale (Jim Chapman), of Vancouver, BC. Cherished grandmother of Christy Larson, of London England, Jaine McCorquodale of Edmonton AB., Dylan Shortt of Calgary, AB., and Chloe Esposito of Vancouver, BC. She is predeceased by her granddaughter Carla Larson, her brother Lloyd Short, her sister Phyllis Gyman and by her son-in-law Joel Shortt. Joyce was born on November 15th, 1925 to Ray and Christine Short, and raised on the family farm near Verwood, SK. She attended Normal School in Regina and upon graduating in 1944, began a teaching career near Bengough, SK. During this time, she met Bruce at a community dance while he was home on leave from the Air Force. Following their marriage in 1948, they moved to Regina where they began their family. They moved to Edmonton in 1964 until retiring to Moose Jaw in 1979. They enjoyed many years of travel to Europe, Australia, The Caribbean, Hawaii, and several trips to Scotland. When they were at home, they loved to socialize with friends and attend community dances and musical events. Joyce was passionate about education and proud of her children's accomplishments. She was an active volunteer in the communities in which she lived. After moving to Moose Jaw, she continued to work at Sears and attended Zion Church. Joyce and Bruce loved to garden and took pride in their roses. In her later years, she faced many health concerns which limited her ability to be involved in many of the causes she supported. She lived at Chateau St. Michael's from 2005 until moving to Extendicare in 2010. Friends are invited to Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W., Moose Jaw to attend a visitation on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Langdon officiating. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
