STRICKLAND, John Chesley - Passed away peacefully at the Health Science Centre, St. John's on January 5th, 2011, aged 80 years. Chesley was born in Milltown, Bay D'Espoir on September 25th, 1930, the son of the late John Robert Strickland and Hannah Grace Kearley. Throughout his life, he remained a proud Newfoundlander and was well known in the Bay D'Espoir area as the electrician and local "Handy Man", always on call to fix just about anything that needed to be fixed. He will be sadly missed by his daughter: Marjorie (Barry Boutilier) and his son: John (Jo-Ellen); his grandchildren: Nicole Boutilier, Michael and Laura Strickland. He is survived by his sisters: Myrtle Coombs, Cora Kendell and Marjorie King (Albert); brother: Gerald Strickland (Bertha); sister-in-law: Margaret Strickland. He is predeceased by his brother: Hubert Strickland; brothers-in-law: Charlie Coombs and Tom Kendell. He was also known to several nieces and nephews as Uncle Chee. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at the Grand Falls Hospital and Life Sciences Hospital, St. John's, for providing wonderful care. Very special thanks to his niece Beverley Snook and Rosemary Durnford for always being there to help out when needed - they were truly Dad's special guardian angels and I know he treasured them both dearly. Cremation has taken place at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, St. John's. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, January 10th, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Christ Church in Milltown, Bay D'Espoir, officiated by Rev. Roy Simms. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Milltown, Bay D'Espoir. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bay D'Espoir Cancer Benefit.
