It is with immense sadness and broken hearts that we the family announce the loss of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, sister–in-law, aunt and friend, Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Lotherington, who passed away after a courageous battle of cancer on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her loving family by her side.
Ma was strong to the end and never gave up her fight for life she so loved.
Born in Sydney, Dec. 21, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Beatson) Hennick.
Bessie was a member of Club 55. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, trips to the casino, many summers spent in Lake Ainslie and having a good cup of tea with family and friends.
Ma is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Jim ‘Tut’ Gardiner; son, Dana (Priscilla); daughter, Ellen (Bruce) Annesty; four grandchildren, David and Taryn Lotherington, Collin and Brandon Annesty. Bessie is also survived by her brother, Stan (Sally) Hennick; sister, Florence (Bob) Shae, Ontario; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William ‘Bim’ Lotherington (1986), her sisters, Evelyn, Vick, Lilly, brothers, Albert, Rudolph, Alex, Frank, Tom, Johnny and a brother in infancy.
Visitation will take place today (Thursday, July 2) at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 3 at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow. Interment to take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
