Lucille Mae (Bagnell) Gorham, 82, died peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at People Care in Tavistock, Ont., where she had resided for nearly five years.
Born in Gabarus, Cape Breton, Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Donald Arthur Gorham, and lived in Welland, Ont., for most of her adult life. She received her nursing training from Sydney City Hospital in Nova Scotia. She was a longtime nurse at the Welland General Hospital and a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Cathi Gorham-Mol (Woodstock) and Beth Gorham (Ottawa); her son-in-law, Rob Mol, her adored grandchildren, Leah, Lucas and Jacoba Mol and Maia Gorham; sisters-in-law, Ruth Gorham and Elva Bagnell; niece, Judy (Hardy) Creighton; her much-loved cousins and all of her family and friends.
Lucille excelled at nursing and was a natural caretaker of all living things. She met Donnie in Welland, where she moved to pursue her career. They were married for 43 years before he died in 1998 from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. She dearly loved her birthplace of Gabarus and she passed on that love to her family. She treasured her steadfast family and friends, who were such a wonderful support and comfort to her in later years.
She was predeceased by her brother, Everett Bagnell and sisters, Agnes (Bagnell) Hardy and Margaret Bagnell.
She was the daughter of the late James and Amy (MacGillivray) Bagnell.
Lucille's family offers heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff members of People Care, who took such good care of her and treated her with familial respect and dignity.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or any local Alzheimer's chapter.
A burial service will be conducted at a later date at Fonthill Cemetery near Welland.
