PICTOU LANDING FIRST NATION - Francis, Joseph "Dennis", 58, of 141 Beach Road, Pictou Landing First Nation, passed away January 7, 2011, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Dennis and Annie "Alice"(Knockwood) Francis.
Dennis was a life-long resident of Pictou Landing First Nation where he was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church.
He was an avid sports fan, and, in particular, a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dennis also enjoyed spending time at his camp on Indian Island.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marguerite (Toney), Pictou Landing First Nation; his children: Lisa(Morris Bernard),Waycobah; Shannon(Kurt Phillips),Waycobah; Darryl(Mary), Pictou Landing First Nation; Tammy(Shawn Francis), Boston, Mass.; Joseph(Rene),Waycobah; and Chad, at home; grandchildren: Kayla, Randall, Austin, Brian, Shawn Jr., Kendra, Emily, Owen and Lindon, brothers: Don(Melanie), Roddie(Shirley), Allen(Mary) and John all of Pictou Landing First Nation, sisters: Mary Lou, Linda, Delores, Ann(Donnie)Muise all of Pictou Landing First Nation; Linda Lou, Millbrook and Deanna(Joe), many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his children, Denise, Sandra and one in infancy, brothers, Gilbert and Randall.
His remains are resting in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation, from where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11a.m. Tuesday with Father Bill Rankin presiding.
