It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Wyman Young at the Glace Bay Hospital on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, with his wife, Mora by his side.
Born in South Bar, he was the son of the late Thomas and Evangeline (Richardson) Young.
Wyman was a member of the police department for 17 years and then 17 years with the Sydney Fire Department. He had a great love for tarabish and going to the horse races. In his earlier years Wyman enjoyed powerlifting and was a champion in the Maritimes.
He is survived by his wife, Mora (MacKeigan); son, Blaine (Tamara), Don Mills, Ont.; granddaughter, Arayelle; daughter, Laurel Young, Toronto; two sisters, Shirley Morrison and Ferne MacDonald.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Boutilier.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W.Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A funeral service celebrating Wyman's life will be Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Reception to follow the service at the funeral home and interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
