It is with broken hearts, we announce the passing of a dear son, father, grandfather and friend, John Saccary, following a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at his residence. At the time of his death, John was surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, Jan. 22, 1943, John was the son of the late Leo and Christina (Lynk) Saccary, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Bridgeport.
John worked at many different jobs throughout his life, working as a baker, painter, coal miner, and an employee with Roper's Construction and lastly a fisherman, the job he retired from. John was a very outgoing and social person having a lot of close friends in the Bridgeport area and was a member of the Row Street Athletic Club. He was also very mechanically inclined and truly enjoyed working on cars in his yard in his spare time.
John will be sadly missed by his mother, Christina Saccary (Seaview Manor); daughters, Shellie Collins and Kelly Saccary, both of Glace Bay; sons, Leo (Celeste) Barrie, Ont., Donnie, Billy and twins Skylor and Coady Campbell, all of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Geoffery, Leo Jr., Adrian, Joshua, Carter, Jayme, Devon; brothers, Hector, Saskatchewan, Timmy, Glace Bay, Gerard, Ontario; sisters, Mary and Rene, both of Ontario; close friend, Kay Marchesin, Barrie, Ont.; nieces, nephews and his loyal four-legged feline companion Puh.
Besides his father, John was predeceased by a brothers, James and Alec.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral Mass celebrating John's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating, with interment in Calvary Cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception immediately following.
As an expression of sympathy for John, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of ones choice.
