WILSON - Vera Arlene, age 79 years of Swift Current, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Cypress Regional Hospital. The funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, June 30, 2009, from the First United Church with Reverend Kevin Johnston officiating. The organist was Marilyn King. The eulogy was read by Laurel Muri and Evelyn Cassidy. Ushers were Judy Potter and Edward Clarke. The interment service was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Swift Current, SK. The pallbearers were Alvin Zacharias, Harvey Wiebe, Steve Cassidy, Pete Funk, James Wilson and Colin Potter. Vera is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Clarence, four sons and their wives; Garry (Florence) of Swift Current and their children Tammy (Laurel) and James; Clarence Keith of Swift Current and his children Jacqueline, Robin, Stephen, Christopher, Donovan and Ashley; Ralph (Karen) of Invemere and daughter, Sheena and Lloyd (Judy) of Nanaimo; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandson and Un-Hi Wilson of Swift Current. Also left to mourn one sister, Elizabeth (Gene) Loustel; sisters-in-law Eva Harden, Valerie Harden, Evelyn Cassidy (Lloyd); brother-in-law Clifford Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Verona Harden (Dancy), Roy Harden and stepmother Irene Harden (Baragar); sister, Cora Amos; half sister, Darlene St. Onge, brother, Virgel Harden; half brothers, Glen Harden, and Allan Harden; sister-in-law, Blanche Wilson; brother-in-law, Harold Amos; grandson, Ronald Wilson; and granddaughter, Samantha Wilson. Vera was born in Swift Current, SK, on January 31, 1930. She attended school at Central School and the Swift Current Collegiate. She married Clarence Corlin Wilson on October 4, 1948, in Medicine Hat, AB. As a high school student she worked at the Swift Current Produce, Veteran's Dry Cleaners and the Metropolitan 5 and Dime Store. Vera then went to work for Vern Newton's Hobby Shop for one year before going to work at the Swift Current Sun and Publishing for 4 years from 1966 to 1971. Vera started working for the City of Swift Current as curator of the Swift Current Museum on April 1, 1971, and retired May 30, 1991, (20 years and 2 months). Vera was a member of the Saskatchewan Museum Association, the United Church Women, Troop 5 Cubs and Scouts, taught Sunday school, English language tutor for new Canadians. Mom had many interests; working for many years in the spring at Smith's Greenhouse, gardening, camping, canoeing, taxidermy, crocheting, knitting, landscape painting, genealogy, newspaper clipping, sewing, travelling overseas and this past year she was learning to use a computer.
