Clarance Stanley Russell of Kamloops passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010 in Kamloops, BC at 95 years of age.

He is survived by his children, Douglas Russell (Port Moody, BC), Susan (Russell) Nulsen (Perth, Australia), Dr. Edward (Brenda) Russell (Kamloops, BC) and Dr. Donald Russell (Toronto, ON), brother Roy (Shirley )Russell (Russeldale, ON) and his sisters, Florence Russell (Toronto, ON) and Kathleen McLeod (Toronto, ON), and will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Claire Nulsen, Sasha Russell and Jayden Russell.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Ethelbert and Florence Russell, his brothers, Wesley Russell, Lawrence Russell and his sisters, Wilhelmina (Russell) Campbell and Marion (Russell) Miller.

Clarance was born on September 10, 1915 on the family farm in Russeldale, Ontario and was the eldest of eight children. He met and married Margaret Gillies. They had four children, Douglas, Susan, Edward and Donald. He graduated Stratford Normal School 1935 and commenced a career in education teaching grades 1-8 in one-room school house in Gravenhurst, Port Rowan, Clarance earned a BA in Education from University of Western Ontario studying part-time and also earned a Master of Education from University of Toronto studying part-time. He taught secondary school at Leaside High School in Toronto, Ontario for several years during which time Margaret Atwood was one of his English students.

He was a well-respected primary school principal in North York, Ontario for 35 years before retirement. Clarance also had a second career as chief clerk of the Ontario Supreme Court for 10 years. He moved from Ontario to Vancouver in 1995 and to Berwick on the Park in Kamloops in 2003 to be closer to his grandchildren.

Clarance was a gentle, generous, genuinely nice man with high standards, an interest in sports and a sense of humour who was very supportive of and had a very positive impact on his children.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Chip Bantock, Berwick on the Park staff and residents and Anne & Nada his caregivers.

There will be no formal public service as requested.
