On Jan. 11, 2011, Dorothy Evelyn Matheson, Sydney, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit, Sydney.
Dorothy was born in Sydney, June 18, 1927. She was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Haines) Napman.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Donna MacDougall (Joe), Sydney River and Elsie Duffy (Sheldon), Sydney. She will be sadly missed by her four grandchildren, Douglas (Cynthia), Sydney, Darren (Colleen), Regina, Sask., Sheldon (Beth), Fort McMurray and Tanya, Sydney; four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Hannah Duffy and Leah and Jaret MacDougall. Dorothy is also survived by her sisters, Lexina MacDonald, Sydney, Patricia Burke, Sydney and Norma Binns, New Brunswick; brother, Armond 'Sonny', London, Ont. and special niece, Alana Robar, Sydney.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Mae Campbell and Bernice Wambolt.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Christ the King, where she participated in the choir. She was an active member of the Rock Elm Senior Complex, where she resided prior to her illness. In her early years, Dorothy was employed at Oak Hall Ltd. and will be remembered for her sense of style and fashion. Throughout the years, she truly enjoyed shopping as her way to keep up with the latest trends. Dorothy loved to bake, spend time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With a great sense of humour, she always enjoyed a good joke.
Visitation for Dorothy will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday 11 a.m. at Church of Christ the King, with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the palliative care staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
