It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Ronald Joseph MacDonald, on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, he moved to Boisdale on the Bras D'Or Lakes at an early age and maintained a lifelong connection with that community. Ronald was an electrician and an IT specialist. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a BA in 1971.
Ronald was a great friend, family man, neighbor and colleague who had a gift of not only seeing the best in people and situations, but in allowing others to see it as well. Soft spoken with a broad base of knowledge, he loved books and music, had a great sense of humour and was a talented writer and stain glass artist.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Deborah MacDonald-Couture and his children, Jennifer (Nathan) Hullett, Justine and Joseph (Natalie) Couture-MacDonald. He is also by his also survived brothers, John R. Vincent (Frances) and Joe L. and sister, Peggy (Kevin) Jordan; as well niece, Jenna MacDonald and nephews, James MacDonald and Lawrence Jordan.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Lawrence and Mary Belle MacDonald of Boisdale.
Visitation will be held at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Following cremation, a memorial mass will take place on Monday, Jan.17, 2011 at St. Andrew's Church, Boisdale with refreshments following at the Boisdale Fire Hall.
