Marjorie Ellison Franey (Walker) - 85, Weston/Kentville, Kings Co. It is with profound sadness that her family announce Marjorie's passing on Saturday, December 18, 2010, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Ross, Lunenburg Co., on July 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Cora (Collicutt) Walker. After high school, at the age of 17, Marjorie went to work at the Royal Bank in Berwick, where she met and married her late husband, Albert Franey, in 1946. They settled in Weston and together they built the business of A.P. Franey Farms Ltd. and raised their family of five children. Marjorie and Albert's home was open to many and there were often extra chairs at the table. Everyone will fondly remember her Saturday night baked beans and brown bread as well as breakfasts of homemade oatmeal. Marjorie was an avid knitter, known for her many creations, especially her much sought after socks and mittens. Her closest companions were her much loved cats, Ginger and Fluffy, who watched over her as much as she watched over them. In her later years, she loved to travel and was fortunate to see Canada from coast to coast to coast, travelling from Newfoundland to Vancouver to Inuvik, N.W.T. Marjorie was a life member of the Women's Institute of Nova Scotia, a long-time member of the Aylesford Baptist Church and more recently attended the Weston Christian Fellowship Church. Her proudest accomplishments were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would brag about them to everyone. Marjorie instilled in her extended family the value of hard work, compassion for others and unconditional love. Left to deeply mourn her passing are her children, Diane (Keith) Kinsman, Canard; Philip (Mariana) Franey, Weston; Alan Franey, Aylesford Mountain; Catherine Franey, New Minas; Susan (Mario) Liberto, Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Michael, Kimberley-Ann (Scott), Angela (Robin), Jessica, Lucas (Lauren), Monica, Diana, Joseph; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Klayre, Kameron, Leanna Belle, Lauren, Finn, Eli. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Albert Patrick Henry Franey; a brother in infancy. Visitation for Marjorie was held from 7-9 p.m., Monday, December 20, in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service took place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 21. Rev. Donald Rafuse officiated, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, Kentville, or to any charity. The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the staff at the Evergreen Home For Special Care, Kentville, for the care and love shown to Marjorie during her year of residence there. Also thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Valley Regional Hospital for their compassionate care in her final days. Condolences may be sent to the family at the funeral home address or on-line by visiting: www.serenitylindsayfuneralhome.ca
