Harry Bruce Currie - age 75 of Canning, NS passed away peacefully Jan. 8, 2011 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville after losing a courageous battle with cancer. Pre-deceased by parents, Edward & Emma Currie and sister Dorothy of Truro, NS. Survived by wife Joan (Graham), sister Betty (Milo) and brother in law Victor (Graham). He will be sadly missed by son Allan (Janice), Canning, daughter Karen (Peter) Sheffield Mills and son Brian (Donna), Debert and granddaughter Victoria (Scott) of Winnipeg, MN. Harry retired after 25 years of service with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1981. He had subsequent careers with the Kings Regional Housing Authority and the Canadian Corp of Commissioners. Harry was very well known for his humanitarian services. During his life, Harry received many awards including the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and Canada's 1st parliamentary democracy award. He asked for no recognition and had a lifetime passion of helping others. He believed there was always something that could be done to help another, big or small. He was dedicated to many charities including the start up of the School Breakfast program, Crime Stoppers and manager of the Canning Food Bank. In the past, Harry served as president and District Governor with the Lions Club and was named as a Melvin Jones Fellow for his humanitarian service. Harry enjoyed his daily visits to the Snack Shack and looked forward to spending time with his coffee club friends. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour and his good natured practical jokes. Harry could always bring laughter into a room. He will be sadly missed by his many friends. At the request of Harry, there will not be a funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Upper Stewiacke at a later date. Donations to be made to Alzheimer's Society and the Canadian Cancer Society.
