Ralph Llewellyn James, age 88, passed away on January 6, 2011, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Ralph was born to Ralph and Maggie James at the family farm south of Waldeck, SK. on September 21, 1922. In his younger years he worked on the family farm, while going to Fox School, to receive his education. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Army, taking his basic training at Regina and Maple Creek. He was then sent to England, where he jonined the Fort Gary Horse Unit and drove Tanks, as Ralph always said " across Europe". After the war was ended Ralph stayed in Holland, helping to liberate the country. Later driving conveys of trucks to Czechoslavakia. On January 15, 1946 he arrived back to New York on the Queen Elizabeth, with 10,000 other Troops. He was a very proud soldier. Upon arriving home, Ralph bought some land, started up a dairy and remained farming all his life. In his younger years he would take a herd of animals and drive them across the South Saskatchewan River to the Matador Ranch, then drive them back in the Fall. Ralph met Margaret Halford and they were married on July 6, 1956. They had three children: Neil, Lloyd and Janice. He is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Neil and Lloyd and daughter Janice (Bruce) Vogel; granddaughters: Melanie and Alecia; brothers: Howard (Irene), Gordon (Liz); sisters: Marjorie Lamb, Ethel Oreto and Beth (Reg) Parsons; sisters-in-law: Lena James, Faye James and Janet James; brother-in-law: Jim (Dayle) Halford, sister-in-law June Crawford and numerous neices and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Ralph and Maggie James, brothers: Cyril, Albert, Pat, Bev; sister Doris; brothers-in-law: Roy Lamb, John Oreto, Lorne Crawford; mother-in-law Alison and father-in-law William Halford. The funeral service was held Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home, with Pastorial Associate Christine Ciona officiating. The ushers were: Maurice Wells and Mark Teulon and the pallbearers were nephews: Dean James, David James, Greg James, Carl Parsons, Kelly Parsons and a neighbour Danny Spenst. The Royal Canadian Legion formed a Guard of Honor and the Legion Rites were observed. The interment service took place at the Waldeck Community Cemetery, Waldeck, SK.
