It is with sadness that her family announce the passing of Gertrude Elizabeth Boehme on Monday, January 17, 2011. Aunt Gert was born October 11, 1921 in Dilke, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of five daughters born to Anna and Fritz Boehme, formerly of Halle, Germany. Although small in stature, she was strong in spirit. She spent her formative years during the struggles of the 30's. The influences of her parents and those of her older sisters, all of whom went on to pursue professional careers, resulted in her decision to teach. She taught at Edwards School, Cupar, Cabri and finally William Grayson School in Moose Jaw. Many of her students have contacted her over the years conveying their thanks and appreciation. Gertrude loved to walk. On her daily excursions, she took in the beauty of creation; admiring the seasons with their, ever-changing, flora and fauna. Aunt Gert also cherished her moments of solitude. She was an avid reader and would spend endless hours with a book or listening pensively to one of her many albums of Classical music. Chez Nous has been her home for the last 16 years. Gertrude loved her home and the kind and caring staff she was fortunate enough to know over this time. Gertrude leaves us now to be with her parents, Anna and Fritz, her four sisters, Charlotte (Freeman), Helene (Williams), Hilda (Petruic), and Emma (LaBuik), her nephews, Eric and Eugene and her great nephew, Peter. She is survived by fourteen nieces and nephews. It is with heartfelt gratitude that we extend our thanks to Manon and staff at Chez Nous, to Dr. Rininsland and the staff of the Moose Jaw Union hospital and to her many friends who have kept contact with her over the years. A Celebration of Gert's Life will take place at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
