1938 - 2011

Gale Ashbaugh of Kamloops passed away on January 16th, 2011 at 72 years of age.

He is survived by his loving wife Martha, children Grant (Corinne), and Mark (Michelle) of Calgary, grandchildren Maren and Ben of Calgary, brother Lyall (Maureen) of Black Creek and family in spirit, Shirley, Theresa, Katherine, Colin, and Stephen Bennie.

He was predeceased by his father Gale Sr., and mother Jean.

Gale was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 5th, 1938 and raised in Vancouver. He joined the military at an early age and spent time stationed in Whitehorse where he worked as a military policeman. After leaving the military, Gale's sense of adventure led him to parachuting, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Gale moved to Kamloops in 1967 and spent 31 years working for CN Rail as a surveyor, operator, with the majority of his career being a dispatcher.

He was a Scout leader with the 3rd Kamloops troop and was always committed and involved in his family's many activities. He raised his family with a strong sense of integrity and values, something for which we will be forever grateful.

After retirement, Gale took an avid interest in training and successfully competing his much loved Duck Tolling Retriever, Schooner. He spent many happy hours involved in dog shows, and was particularly active in the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club of Canada.

Gale will be greatly missed for his sense of humour and wit, curiosity, and the love that he showed to his family, particularly to his grandchildren.

A service will be held at Kamloops United Church on Friday, January 21st, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
