Brian Joseph Rintoul passed away peacefully at home in Kamloops on January 12th, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.

Brian was born in Chatham, Ontario on November 27th, 1955 and grew up and had his early education in Midland, Ontario.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1979 and came to British Columbia in 1980 for a position at Urban Systems in Kamloops. He worked briefly in Vancouver with the Federal Transport Commission but it was to Kamloops his second home he most happily returned as a partner with TRUE Consulting in 1989. He loved his job and took great satisfaction in bringing much needed services and amenities to remote communities and helping plan for the future of the region. He also took great pride in mentoring the young engineers coming to the firm and continued to do so as long as he was able.

It was in Kamloops that Brian met his wife and partner Libby. Together they lived a healthy, active and most engaged life surrounded by a wonderful network of friends who shared their love of the outdoors and soon to come young children. Skiing was one of the great passions of his life and he became a fixture at Tod Mountain/Sun Peaks. He loved sharing his enthusiasm and skills with their young boys. Brian was a most loving and patient father and took great delight in his sons' athletic and academic achievements.

Brian brought the same passion and determination to the challenge of living a full life with ALS for the past six years.

Brian is survived by his wife Libby (O'Donnell) and his sons Colin and Steven of Kamloops. He is also survived by his parents Marjorie and Perrie Rintoul of Midland, Ontario and his siblings Margaret, Lee Venables, Mark and Doreen (Wong) and Katherine and Peter (Budreo) and his mother-in-law Thelma O'Donnell and his nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Service to celebrate Brian's life will be held on Thursday, January 27th, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. in the Calvary Community Church, 1205 Rogers Way, with Viktor Gundel, Royal Inland Hospital Chaplin officiating.
