It is with deep regret that we, the family, announce the passing of Ben Vallis, on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at the Cove Guest Home.
Born in Coomb's Cove, N.L., he was the son of the late Manuel and Blanche (Bartlett) Vallis.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew's parish. In his younger years, Ben taught school, fished and later was employed with Parks Canada as a stone mason for 25 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and tinkering around his work shop.
Ben is survived by his four children, Donna (James) Ley, Port Hardy, B.C, Ben (Mette)Vallis, Keene, Ont., Roy (Gina) Vallis, Oakview, U.S.A., Edwin 'Eddie' (Sheila) Vallis, Catalone. He is also survived by his sister, Tryphena 'Triffie' Smith, Cole Harbour, brother, Edwin (Jane) Vallis; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Laura (Spencer) in September, daughters, Audrey Ley and Sandra and Wanda in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at the Cove Guest Home, for their dedication, compassion and kindness toward our dad and providing excellent care for him over the past few years.
