It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother,sister and friend, Vina Murphy. Vina passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, Vina was the daughter of the late Thomas and Susan (Budge) Burte.
She was a member of St. Leo's parish where she was very active in many church groups. She was an instructor with the Christopher Course and served as a board member for many years. Mom was known for her delicious baking, especially her chocolate chip cookies. She loved to shop at the mall on Saturdays. Vina was an inspiration to many by the way she lived her life.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 53 years, Terry; daughters, Terri Lynn (Jerry) MacNeil, Lydia (Sheldon) Billard of Glace Bay; sons, Charles (Henrietta), Toronto, and Christopher (Kathy), Dominion, and her nine grandchildren. Also left to mourn are sisters, Fannie Bates, Calgary, Bette Bates, Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Vina was predeceased by brothers, Jim, Audie and Doad.
Visitation for Vina Murphy will be held Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Leo's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Cremation has taken place and burial will follow at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Glace Bay Unit of the Palliative Care Society, the Cancer Society or charity of choice.
